Hi all
Have an 09 rockett had the G/box upgrade at 17 tho done 70 now
The prob is it dropping out of 3rd 4th and 5th gear also it got netural between all these gears . There was no clunk rattle or bang has anyone got any ideas what has happened

My guess is a broken detent spring, located behind the clutch... Happened to one of my rockets, same symptoms, I found it would stay in gear if you kept the shifter depressed when selecting the gear... easy fix though :smile:
 
my denent sring broke on mine and it did not stick in gear i could still change gear but would pop out of 2nd and 4th gear and they can go thru the front of the engine to replace it so dont let them tell u that the engine has to come out
 
Same here... Broken spring, shifted into all gears no probs, stayed in gear under load but slipped out of all gears on decel. How ever, I could hold it in gear if I held the gear change lever depressed... Had to ride 500km home like that.
 
I agree on the detent spring, but probably stretch rather than broken. If it is broken then you will probably end up stuck in one gear. Which gear that you are stuck in will depend on your luck. Mine was stuck in 1st, but it happened about two miles from home so it wasn't too bad. Either way, the fix is the same - replace the spring. It is about three hours work if you have the tools.

Check out some of the clutch threads before you go in. Warp9.9 has posted a good mod for the clutch return spring which makes life easier and is probably better than the OEM setup. You may also want to check your clutch plates and steels while you are in there. If the clutches need replacing then I would strongly suggest looking at MRC (I think the name is right - no doubt warp will correct me if I am wrong) plates.

Ok got the usual run around from the shop ( motor out ect) I have ordered the spring and gaskets.

Was just wondering looking at the manual do i need some special tool to remove the clutch basket or can it be done some other way

Pretty much the same as when I broke mine. I think the replacement is supposed to be a little stronger,the original has a weak spot on a bend in the spring.
 
I have seen the clutch locking tool on ebay going for a song... not a fan of using a rattle gun on a m/c clutch myself... but then others do
