2023 GT, battery often on trickle charger. Started fine when we left home, stopped for gas and she would not start. Guy in Jeep had a portable jumper box. Bike started right up. Got her home and on the trickle charger, shows full charge is 5 minutes. If it charged that quickly on a trickle charger it's not taking a full charge.
I ordered a YUSA from Revzilla, $158 including shipping.

Never been happy with my 06 and hot starting. Cold starts are fine. Hot starts are hit and miss. Many say get heavier battery cables, many put heavier starters on, none have worked for me. This is the issue with Rocket 3’s that just infuriates me. I carry a Lithium Ion battery jumper and I keep it charged. I think the root of the issue is the contacts on the solenoid. Mine solenoid clicks, but the starter won’t engage. I have found no way to improve on the solenoid contacts.

You need to add an additional relay that sends battery power directly to the starter. I have a posting that discusses it. Mine hasn't "clicked" once since I did the mod, and had tried ALL the other mods before that with no success.

I’m on it now. I’ve wired relays for my headlights and this is the same complexity. Where did you position the new relay? Behind the right side cover or under your seat?

Just for a general point of reference:

My Rocket is one of the early 2020MY one's. It's still on the original battery.

It's a low mileage bike at just over 10,000 miles and those are not commuter miles, so it spends a lot of time sitting without starting.

I have a traffic light style LED battery indicator (CTEK) which I can then tell if I need to connect up the trickle charger to the bike.

Over the winter I tend to need to give it a charge about once a month. In the summer I might connect it once if i'm not using the bike for a period, but other than that, I don't keep the battery charger/maintainer on the bike.

I don't think the battery is ever subjected to freezing temperatures or massively hot temps during any year.

I don't use much power from ancillary equipment on the bike. Just occasional Garmin Zumo nav system, but not used much at all.

I also don't tend to power up the screen on the bike without the engine running at the same time.

I only start up the bike if i'm riding off on it. Rarely just to to run the engine for a few seconds/minute.

Will be interesting to see when my battery goes down. So far its' 5 years & two months old.

You can get these relays from Amazon for about 8 bucks that snap together and have a mounting bracket. Then you can mount them behind the right side cover like in the second pic.

Had the battery fail because the bike was started too many times in a short period. (Troubleshooting a bad relay). I had a R3T beforre my GT and the battery was always on the verge of failing. Not big enough for the application. I learned my lesson then. I now run a 10 gauge wire from the +tve terminal to a copper clip that fits into a sunglass holder I mount behind the left saddlebag. When I need a jump, it's very convenient. I use a lug on the back wheel for the boost ground. I carry an 700amp lithium bank / starter to be self sufficient and help others in need. They are not very big and will start my zx14r without a battery.

Hi. If I was to replace, or add in another start relay, It would be able to handle the current expected from the battery. Say 150 amps? Instead of a 30/40 amp relay, Why not use something like...
