My attempt at cutting on the claw

What thing you have to say for Dave he is an "equal opportunity" parts man.

That looks great!! I've done a bit of experimenting with Intake Air Temps over the last couple of weeks. I have an R3T with K&N's. I began by cutting the bottom of the bearclaw along the crease up to the back of the overflow bottle. I did that mainly for clearance purposes, but also for improved airflow. The bearclaw on the R3T is shaped different than the Standard, cutting along the crease exposes the filters but leaves the tops completely covered.

I then relocated the overflow to under the seat and began playing with the temps. With the sensor stuck into the top of the first K&N I was seeing IAT around 115 at ambient temps of around 85. I then removed the left side lower windshield piece. Rember that on the R3T the lowers are part of the stock windshield. That dropped the IAT by about 10-15 degrees. The lower piece was creating a real dead air area around the filters. Completely removing the bearclaw then lowered the IAT by another 10-15 degrees. So, without the lower piece and the bearclaw my IAT was getting pretty close to ambient. I also blocked the airflow from the radiator with a piece of leather I had laying around to keep the hot air from going directly into the filters.

Yesterday I cut off the remaining piece of the bearclaw below the crease that was covering the overflow bottle. With the bearclaw reinstalled my IAT is now about 10-15 degrees above ambient. It still retains rising heat but much less than before. The screens you have installed should do a very good job at venting that heat. If you have a Scangauge I'd be interested in hearing what your IAT readings are.

Again, nice job....

Thanks. My fleetliner dumps a bunch of cool air right in the front of the bearclaw. I have a scanguage but I have it all set up for my truck. It is a pain to switch between vehicles, but I guess it would be worth it.:)

bear claw

Pig9r, I like how you cut out the bear claw looks nice.
Do you notice any differents getting more air to your filters?Does it give you more power?
