My attempt at cutting on the claw

Here are some preliminary pics. I haven't attached the mesh in the openings yet (any ideas would be appreciated). I plan on powdercoating everything black and running some rubber bottom Uni's. I hope to get better air flow and I hope my bike doesn't burn up either.

No problem Brian, I have a lot more parts where that came from, most parts are still for sale except the paint I started to peel it off last weekend but it did not turn out very good.

Very nice job!! That should go a long way to relieve the heat accumulating under the bearclaw.

I made an interesting observation over the last few weeks. The R3T with the windshield mounted (with attached lowers) does a very good job of keeping wind blast off the rider. But, it also does a great job of preventing clean air from getting anywhere near the throttle bodies. On a recent ride I was seeing 130 degree IAT (around 100 ambient). I tried removing my cut bearclaw and the difference was only a few degrees. Removing the windshield however lowered the IAT by 15-20 degrees. The temps were measured in the front K&N, with the overflow bottle relocated under the seat.

Your mesh bearclaw should get you IATs near ambient when moving. Anything you could do to redirect radiator heat below and away from the intake would help as well. From what I understand, a 7 degree rise in intake temperature is good for 1% loss in power. Don't know where that came from but sounds plausable.

I also have measured the difference with the cover on and off and the only difference was when I was stopped it was a little higher. I have a Corbin Fleetliner fairing and it dumps a bunch of cool air right into the front of the cover. So I will be curious to see how it does.
