Model/Year Performance Mods

I have a 2011 Roadster and that came with a modified relay system for the headlights. So I don't think the Beaver is required on your bike. My bike is bulk standard and I downloaded a tune from Tune ECU that opened up the secandries without getting the spanners out. I understand from reading other threads that Triumph have stopped restricting fuel/air flow in the first 3 gears on 2013 models. It may be possible for your dealer to do this to your bike easy to ask.

Thanks for the advice! I'll get the relay for sure. I think 1olbull's approach seems like my style. I know better than to start an oil debate, so please send me a private message on the synthetic that works for you! If the weather breaks, I should have enough miles on by the Louie Run in at the beginning of May.

what is and where is the "Louie run"

My R3R is 2012 and I be told the ignition wiring is better but NOT completely fixed or bypassed. I want as much from the headlights as possible so I shall do the Full Monty bypass. Been shopping for some LED lighta as well.

I do want to know more about this "restricting fuel/air flow in the first 3 gears". Any idea where I go read more about this?

I own a 2011 Roadster fitted with TOR’s and the associated Triumph tune and have also asked this question.

My understanding is that Triumph decided to retard the timing in the first 3 gears to tame the beast for the faint hearted. That said most of us then spend a lot of time trying to find a way to access the full potential of our bikes.

To my knowledge there are three methods available to fix the timing issue;

1. Take it to someone and get a dyno to reset the parameters;
2. Use a third party software application such as Tuneboy or Tune ECU to fix the timing / set the secondaries;
3. Install a Gipro to trick the ECU that you are always in 4th (or 5th) gear where there are no timing retard issues.

The issue with options 1 & 2 are that you will void your warranty for tampering with the ECU, therefore best wait a couple of years before going down this road.

The problem with installing a Gipro to the Roadster is that the bike comes standard with a Gear Indicator (GI). If the Gipro is set to trick the ECU that it is always in 4th then the stock GI will indicate that you are always in 4th gear.

Triumph have now decided to remove the restriction on the new 2013 model, however I have confirmed through Triumph that this tune is not compatible with earlier models due to software changes in the 2013 ECU.

I believe that Triumph should now offer all R3 owners a tune that removes this restriction (suited to both stock & TOR exhaust applications) as part of a customer support program since they no longer see a problem with this setup. From their point of view it would provide a level of quality assurance and remove the risk of owners tampering / mucking up their ECU's.

Obviously Tuneboy / Tune ECU would still be required if aftermarket exhaust systems /air intakes are installed.

Anyway, that's just my two bobs worth :confused:

Hey SteveX,
That helps - seems as though I have rid myself of it with the PCV+AT and Tune ECU with new HansO map.

Now back to better headlights, forward controls, better rear shocks . . .

To clarify the restrictions on the Rocket III in the first three gears: first the timing is retarded AND the secondary butterflies don't open fully. Another problem with Triumph tunes is that they don't control fuelling as you would expect, e.g. When fitting the less restrictive TOR's mufflers from Triunph the associated tune richens the mixture by CLOSING the secondaries at some revs so how does that give you full power?

Closing the secondaries makes the A/F mixture richer. But it's a BS phony way to do it. Pull the secondaries out and get a PCV or TuneECU or Tuneboy.

To all of you who have removed the secondaries...Please confirm that when the intake crap is removed the "secondaries" are the set of butterflies nearest the top of the throttle bodies. My '13 roadster is in various stages of dis-assembly waiting on Jars. Hopefully in a couple of weeks it will have tri K&Ns, Jars, PCV-AT and some new widgets, but I would hate to remove the wrong butterflies by assuming I knew what I was doing.

Thanks

yes they are the first set you see when looking down the throttel bodies
