My Metzlers were nearly bald with 13,000 miles on the front and 10,500 miles on the rear. I had to replace the OEM rear at 2500 miles when it was punctured picking up a nail. I looked around on the internet for a longer lasting tire and came across the new Michelin Commander II which is claimed to have a 25,000 mile tread life. I had to order a rear application for my front rim got get the right size. The rear Michelin is a 180/65 which isn't much different from the OEM 180/70. These also are a bias ply tire as opposed to the OEMs being radials. Since having them mounted a week ago I've found them to handle as well if not better than the Metzlers and the ride seems smoother over rough pavement. Time and many miles of riding will tell if their tread wear claims hold up, but so far-so good with them.
