Old thread, but just wanted to add....... tried this for the first time and it does seem like a better solution. Of course, you have to remove the tire to install the patch.

The old rope plug is still king while stranded on the side of the road and THAT is what will get you home.
 
I keep a stop and go in my bike at all times.

I tried that product and it didn't work for me. I was camping at the end of a dirt road with larger than usual sized "gravel" - rocks. The mushroom plug held overnight, but on the way out the pressure applied by one or more rocks to that specific area merely pushed the plug into the tire. Probably great if you're on pavement where the pressure is uniform, but I often end up on gravel back roads (by accident- not design).

This guy is super annoying, but I still watched this entire video with comparisons. He demonstrates about here what happened to my mushroom plug....

Ya, I wouldn't use one as a permanent fix. But it will usually get you home. Internal patch plug is the way to go for a permanent fix.
