Wish I'd done that in this case, to be sure. Of course the only reason to take it to a Triumph dealer when it's seemingly unrelated to the brand is that there's at least a chance the trained eye of a Triumph mechanic will spot something related that I, the customer, haven't noticed yet. For eg., in looking thru some of the links this site provides, I found the RECALL & TECH UPDATE VIN ENQUIRY URL and so entered my VIN there. The result I got was:
"There ARE outstanding service bulletins or recalls on your bike.
Please contact your nearest dealer WITHOUT DELAY to have your bike upgraded or modified at no cost to you."
Now, I'll grant you that I should've known about this before making such a trip, and checked it myself, but the expectation I no longer have was that a Triumph dealer would as a simple matter of course verify something so fundamental as that. It's good I have to haul the bike all the way back down there for this clutch failure anyway, so it won't be a totally wasted trip.
Maybe on my next tire change, assuming I get that far, I'll check out the local Honda dealer's showroom while I'm waiting.
