Thinking about doing the under seat air-box removal. I spoke with one dealer who said they could fit the K&N pods(for a fee) but I'd have to have a power commander fitted (for a fee) because it has aftermarket pipes. Removing the air-box and fitting the pod is a job i could handle myself.


I have also seen the Ram-air setup which looks easy enough to fit.

Is there a tune on ECU of TUNEBOY where i could do this myself and do away with the power commander.

oh **** that's right one other question about the K&N pod setup does the bear claw cover enough ride in wet weather.

The original poster mentioned also about whether the K and N had issues with rain. I'd love to hear peoples thoughts on that as well.
They look slick, and are a little cheaper than ramair so that is the way I am planning to go but wondering if riding in the rain will be an issue.
 
K&N or Ramair under the stock claw have ZERO issues in the rain, I speak from 2 years riding in Hawaii, it RAINS here sometimes, and I ride in it. Bikes sat outside the office all day getting dumped on, and zero water issues when I go to start it.

As for the tune... Your dealer is making the typical "ignorant dealership" comment, they don't know what TuneECU or Tuneboy are clearly. You dont "need" a PC-3/V for the air intake/exhaust tune, but it allows anyone with a dyno to tune the bike instead of trying to find a TuneECU/boy specialist.
 
These Suckers have been thru Torrential Rain all the way from Philip Island to Lakes Entrance (312 km) and while my wet weather gear did not keep me dry the bike did not miss a beat, I even had water get into the left hand controls to the point where the lights kept switching to Hi beam by themselves, It was really heavy rain and as I said the bike did not miss a beat
 

My 2780s were under the claw.
I hail from WA State and know a thing or two about rain . . .
NEVER any issue with moisture!
 
Does the bearclaw impede the flow or keep the intake air warmer than without the bearclaw? Individual filters are certainly simpler. I'm using the 2780's. I'd use bigger ones like Hans' but I'm afraid my knees would hit 'em.

As for PCV tuning on the dyno, if you can find a tuner who can tune with TuneECU or Tuneboy, go for it.
 

Exactly! Tis why I am trying the RamAir. My 2780s sit on the bench in case they are needed again.
My recent dyno-tune (at the hands of guru-Nels) has shown improvement so far.
