I have the 240 Carpenter build and have gotten SO MUCH flack about keeping an air filter! The fact is that I have an under the tank K&N which works fine.
Every intake stroke is independent of the other cylinders ..so each intake stroke pulls air through the large filter. i could never see the advantage of seperate filters !
What don't I understand!!??

Someone may well give you a more technical answer but here it is from my perspective.

The under seat filter and "hamster run" plumbing had to go for all sorts of reasons including flow and access to the top of the engine. It did draw relatively cool air from the rear of the seat though. Having removed it I wanted something that was easy to install without needing any costly fabrication or other plumbing and also a way of sti getting cool air into the intake. Triples are a simple and effective solution, not necessarily chosen because the bike needs 3 filters.

The under tank filter is only a partial solution, doesn't open up the top of the engine, retains that ***** of a plenum that us near impossible to put back on if you ever have to take it off and draws warm air from above the engine. I'm sure it flows just fine but that's not really the whole point of the exercise.

Agree with Canberra ... i was warned just how tricky it was to re-plumb the stock aircleaner. Had to remove the plumbing when i replaced my cam chain. Not certain which set-up draws more cool air into the engine , my guess would be the triple K&N's but hey i could be wrong.

some dude posted this pic on the other site i think, means you can use the 4040s or at least a similar size and keep the bearclaw (to an extent). looks **** cool too. i just dont like cutting up stuff. might get the finger out someday and buy a bearclaw to modify

The cricket noise is changed on Ponters bike by the different cam timing. The stock bike does it more because of the nature of the timing in the stock engine. If you buy a cheap ( yes that word :) ) one of those roll up blue camping mattresses made of closed cell foam, and cut it up and stick it inside your bear claw the noise will be diminished. Alternatively you could make your engine faster or exhaust louder so the noise is less obvious :)

Blessed is thee that sees the Holy One :D here you go Warp.

Thanks bud I like the idea. SO what color is that claw and is it painted or am I looking at a Carbon Fiber one?
If you decide you do not want it I will be happy to take her off your hands :D
