K&N Filters ok in the rain?

I ride in the rain at times as well as on dirt roads.Do the K&N filter pods cope ok with the rain ,stuck out in the breeze? Are they sufficient to guard against dust being sucked into the motor?Also i noticed ages ago that someone posted a comment that their Rocket K&N pods catching on fire after a back fire!Have many others encountered this?Is the mod worthwhile regarding performance increase?

That was with "Uni-Filters, not K&N's. I have survived many backfires, torrential rain with my triple K&N's. For additional peace of mind, K&N rain condoms are avaialable, and adjusting the bearclaw helps cover them.

After the rains, the oil may become depleted and require another cleaning.

Change your oil/filter every 5-6K (which is generally held around here regardless of K&N use).

The difference in going from a stock intake arrangement to a triple K&N has been dyno proven 10 RWHP SAE on a prieviously dyno tuned bike with Jardines. Pull the secondary plates and you will see a bigger advantage.

thanks for that mate.Anyone figured out how to run K&N filters or anything similar that can be kept behind the 'Bearclaw' , i guess it cant be done other wise someone would have done it!
I guess my central question is, can the Predators be run with stock gear ,except for a different tune downloaded without damaging anything ?

I ran the uni filters on my bike for atleast 15,000ks,not a problem with them and had plenty of blowbacks/back fires :wink:
If I get another R3 unis will be straight on it :wink:

I just did this mod. not hard at all and i was able to easily fit the filters under the bearclaw - just turn them all to the 2 o'clock position.

so if i was to put K&N's on my stock bike could you expect i would need re mapping?Or isnt it worth putting the filters on until you have a different exhaust system other than stock?

A remap is strongly suggested. The stock tune is too lean
