Info for US riders planning on going to RDU

Id go to Sturgis for a look and a ride around a distant land - ***wits or not - I just walk/ride away from them.
And the isle of man too.

Don't get me wrong mate , they ^ are all appealing .. what's not is all of ***cwits that Sturgis seems to attract. A mate of mine from the Coffin Cheaters MC went over to Sturgis a few years back. He couldn't leave his motel or he was going to start punching idiots .. hahaha.. he warned me never to go there .. RIP Robbie 1%er CCMC

Incognito mate...we all have our crosses to bear. Sturgis proper is mostly bikes and drunk *******s IMHO and not the attraction. Good for a look during the day, but not where I would choose to meet the local Federales. I have no desire to walk an idling rocket down the main drag for an hour or more due to traffic...but on the periphery? Great rides, great people (mostly), great parties, etc. BTW..."STURGIS" encompasses a LOT of territory. It's more an idea and general area than the TINY little town

Mate of mine went to Sturgis last year .. returned with native American buckskin outfit (yep chaps and a jacket with crap all over it) that you couldn't pay me wear :cautious: Obviously Sturgis had a very traumatic effect on him. So I figure with the potential for violence (as Robbie stated) and getting around like Co-cheese .. nahhh not for this fella mate.

I love riding the Black Hills, Custer State Park, Devil's Tower, Deadwood, Mount Rushmore, and even out to the Badlands. Good riding and tons to see, Sturgis makes a great base camp for fantastic day rides. Like Morris said lots to see in the way of party's and scantly clad women. Just not my cup of tea during the rally, seems there is always one in the crowd who wants to test his manhood. Beautiful riding country however.

I just wondering are you guys allowed to carry guns when you go and keep them with you while at sturgis or is it a no gun zone

I carried, but not to anyone's knowledge, I am sure it is a no gun zone. I would have pleaded stupidity because of my carry permit. I hope I never have to draw it but I do know how to use it.

South Dakota is an open carry state and I have seen many bikers doing so at Sturgis during the rally.
Not needing to show my balls, I prefer concealed myself.
Sturgis is a safe place, especially in town. The nightlife outside town somewhat less; but not too bad.
It is motorcycle heaven for riding. Should plan at least 3 or4 days of ridinf to cover it all.
Many nice townsto visit - Sturgis is just a turd town with a huge rally.

I love the idea of visiting Sturgis and riding the surrounding territory, just not on "That" weekend, I deal with enough *******s on a day to day basis.....

As far as RDU is concerned, if we can get a rough idea of the total round trip cost (give or take) I can check my piggy bank, and let you know if I can swing it if so I'm in as well

I never asked. The whole idea behind concealed carry is just that it's...well...concealed.

Here's my current best guess on cost:

Ocean Freight: $1330 (~ $1000 USD)
Crating on this side: ?
Customs Agent: $1000 (~ $800 USD unless Ozrider's guy can handle that part too)
Paperwork to temporarily import the bike: ~ $500 USD?
Airfare: ~ $2000
Spending money: ~ $2000? (depends on how much you eat and where you stay)

Looks like my budget is running around $6k or so. Anyone with ideas on how to reduce it please let me know. If Nurse Ratchet makes the trip I am looking at closer to $8k. Not bad for the type of adventure this will no doubt turn out to be, but definitely something that needs to be planned for.
