how long does it take a mechanic to change r/tyre?

Hi
My dealer wanted to charge me an hour(AUD$77) for a rear tyre change that last time cost AUD$20 standard fitment fee..I know theyre a pain to change, but I didnt think they should take that long.Opinions fellas?
I am inclined to buy my own lifting apparatus or make one and save $$ over the long term taking my own tyre out.Anyone recommend a good stand or a design to make?
 
My buddy over at the Harley shop did mine and he was not happy.

He said he struggled with it for a while before he got it fitted.
 
Getting the wheel on and off is a breeze, getting the tire on and off the rim is a different story. Most motorcycle shops have small (low power) Tire changers, the Rocket tire is very tight and there is not enugh inset to get the tire on the rim for these low power machines. I try to give my dealer as much business as I can because I want them to stick around. but I helped on the last rear tire and I will not let them do another until they get a better machine.

Find a garage or tire store, take the rim and new tire to them, they'll have it off and on for about $20.00, take it home and do a jackstand balance, you'll be good to go.

like yogi said, you've got to find a shop w/ the right equipment. even most h/d shops don't have them b/c they haven't needed them til the new rear end kits surfaced recently. you've got to find a dealer that sells the 240's--250's and up. (to 360 now!) they have right equipment and guys with "know how " and have done a bunch. i use ironhorse. but i take wheel off-carry to them--w/ tire i bought online-- then put back on myself.--i'd assume they could do all-- entire removal/replacement w/ ease too. local r3 dealer sends all his stuff to them also. john
 
My dealer complained about the time it took to get the wheel out of the swingarm,guard & having to remove caliper, on top of the tyre change.I think I may be better off getting a stand and taking the wheel off myself and getting them to replace the tyre which they are cool about and I am led to believe they will only charge AUD$20 to do.
I guess what I am angry about is they charged me AUD$20 last time they changed the tyre 8000K's ago with them doing everything but when I needed a new one two days ago they didnt tell me they would charge more this time before they started the job and waited until I picked the bike up. :x
 
Sounds like the general consensus is that it takes a shop around an hour to get the job done, so with that in view , I think its best if I buy/manufacture a lift to get the bike high enough to take the rear tyre out.I might make a home made "harley"centre stand with a 8ft lever and get a good lift height high enough for the rear wheel to clear the guard.Piece of piss to make ,so it would be handy if they did work.Can you use those two mounting spots at rear of the engine that look like a centre stand should bolt onto to as a fulcrum point for a "harley"stand to be temporarily fastened to? :?:
