heel-toe linkage adjustment

Hey Guys,

Today I have expereinced trouble with my bike dropping out of gear when decelerating or braking coming up to stop. Has anyone else had this happen?

My dealer thinks it is the linkage tied the the heel-toe shifter and that it needs adjusting.

I am aware of the adjustment nut but all that does is raise the toe shifter higher or lower which I have raised for the steel toe shoes I wear.

I don't use the heel shifter part and thought about just removing it.

Any advice out there?

I didn't return to the last dealer that insulted my intelligence with a comment like that.

But then again, you can't take what they say on the phone to heart ... it's what they say after they look at it that counts.
 
I removed the heel portion of the shifter a year or so back. Never used it and now I have a bit more room for my big feet.

I've yet to have the problem you describe.
 
The heel to shifter does not need adjusting. I can honestly say this would have nothing to do with the bike dropping out of gear on decel...........+1 on what hellfire said.......so no drop out on acceleration? are you experiencing an idle change on decel due to the gear dropping out? I assume it drops into neutral (or the spot in between gears)? If you could explain what happens and if it is under the same conditions it would make it easier to narrow down.......

Could be bumps are allowing your boots to just "bump" the shifter enough....I would think this would have been a problem long before so I would rule that out. I have not had a problem either on my touring but I use the heel. Wondering now if I should remove the heel to make more room for my size 12's

I took my standard and put boards and a heel toe shifter on it.
Mine stays solidly in gear, but the wife's don't fully engage for her sometimes,
but we haven't had the problem you're describing.

I wear 13's and I am thinking about removing the heel part as well as I could be bumping it. I know it is aggravating but it has become consistent today.
 
shift levers question

i'm wondering if i can use a toe shifter instead of the toe/heel setup on my classic. i don't want to cut off the back half of my shifter, but i'm having a really tough time getting my big feet to fit onto the floorboards. i'm going to look on ebay for a stock regular rocket 3 toe shift lever. i looked at one on the showroom floor yesterday and it looks like it may work. i'm just concerned now with the pivot. is it going to be the same type of pivot that the classics have, and using the same linkage? this should be a simple thing to do. chime in if anyone knows please.
 

The heel part of the shifter just unbolts, 3 minute job
