Has the ignition problem been fixed ?

Yup....I've been over this schematic before 1olbull and there does not appear to be a headlight relay in the circuit...other than the starter relay that switches out the headlights during cranking.

@Bedifferent just out of curiosity, why did you drain the tank to install the EB kit?
Also isn't that triumph's fix. Maybe I'm mistaken, but before I don't think there was a cutout relay during start? That would explain why newer models with the EB install experience brighter headlights.

1oldbull - thanks but that is the early ECM version classic schematic - note that schematic does not actually even match your own bike configuration.

All Triumphs for at least 20 years have headlight-cut-while starting of some variation
On the Rockets (& most other Triumphs of the last 10 years) the starter relay doubles as the headlight-cut relay - uses a normally closed connection of the relay (ie relay not energized) to provide power to the headlight circuit; when relay is actuated, it removes power from headlights and switches over to the starter solenoid.
EB (or any supplier) headlight relay kit gives brighter headlights simply because the current path is improved by one of lower resistance (combination of routing, # of switches/interconnects and wire gauge).

for what its worth.
when i was researching to do mine i think the the upgrade relay for the older roadsters had a wiring dia.
i would assume that it might be like the newer ones?

Here is the late-model (second gen ECU) Roadster diagram (not ideal but it's all I've been able to get) - again shows no headlight relay other than the standard starter relay (item 64 in image below) - headlight current coming directly through the key-switch
It depends on the revision of that diagram however - if Triumph really did release an upgrade, this may be the pre-upgrade revision.

So again - if anyone has late-model Roadster Diagram, I'd love to see it.

I bought a full printed version of the manual including the update packet about a year ago. I will check when i get home and see if it is any different

I have been happy so far with the EB Kit as it was a simple install. I have the touring , so I will say the headlight shell is a little full with two other harnesses already in there. With that said, it was not a problem getting everything to fit pretty easy inside the shell. I spent more time draining and raising the tank than I did doing the actual install. As I mentioned in another post, the stock H4 connector has exposed terminals so I did replace that connector with a closed back type to avoid any shorts. I carry a spare Panasonic EB style relay as it is readily available in the states from the site listed below. If I have any issues with the EB Kit I can always put the original headlight connector back on the H4 light to bypass the kit. I plan to carry an extra starter relay and one of the three other bike relays just in case I ever have a relay issue. As I commonly say....any plan is better than no plan at all.

I recently heard a good saying "It is better to be looking at the part than to be looking for it"

I drained the tank, because for winter I store my bike with a full tank with stabilizer. I read in a post that someone had to raise his tank when it was full and had a problem with fuel leaking out. I usually remove four gallons or so to make the tank lighter before raising. I'm picky about running wiring and I wanted a clear view for getting everything nice and neatly tied up and dressed out of the way. I also ran some wiring for a jack up front to power my GPS if I have it installed. It was also a good way to look around and see some things.

There is a relay under the tank on the touring and that is for the auxiliary/running lights. Same part number as the other three used on the bike (the starter relay is different, a five pin, because of its dual duty). It doesn't show on the old schematics I have, but if you look up the lighting kit you can see it is part of the package. The starter relay definitely doubles as a cutout for the light during cranking as DEcosse has explained very well. The brighter light is from the direct connection to the battery allowing for improved current flow and reducing any voltage drop that might take place through the bikes switch and circuit wiring. I actually carry the wiring schematic on my cell phone so I can troubleshoot on the road if I have a problem. I probably won't have what I need to fix things but knowing the circuit and wiring colors can't hurt. It was good to know about the two wiring harnesses in the headlight shell. Easy access for bypassing a bad clutch switch for example. Gotta have a plan! If the bike knows I have all of this stuff, I'll never have a problem. :p

This site continues to be my "rocket for dummies" handbook. You guys are awesome! @DEcosse and @Bedifferent
On the tank I was just curious because I've never drained it before lifting or removing. If I'm under there for any major work, removing is far easier than lifting. ;)
