True enough .. don't really consider myself an animal activist , although I can't stand people being cruel to them. Fellow humans I could torture till the cows came home .Just my thoughts on the subject that's all.
+1 I'm a gun owner (mild understatement) but I don't hunt, because I don't get a kick out of killing an animals for fun. Now if I'm going to shoot it cleanly, drag it out of the bushes, clean it, and put it in the freezer and eat it, that's a different story. But not for a trophy, or the "fun" of it. I can think of plenty people I'd like to shoot for fun though, LOL.

I assume where ever that hide came from is ok, or the EPA/eviro commandos would be kicking in the door. They like to raid guitar makers with guns drawn for using wood they think (or say) came from the wrong place (or the owner has the wrong politics). They also like to run around and point guns at gold miners in the hinterlands of Alaska. So you'd probably have them driving an APC into your living room and repelling out of helicopters into your backyard over an elephant hide that came from the wrong place.

Of course it came from the wrong place - it came from an elephant. It does require some capacity for sophisticated thought to grasp it, but the simple fact is that ANY demand for elephant hide, regardless of how many certificates it has, encourages poaching and illegal trade. I'll say no more about it but I dare you (N2toys) to walk into any group of intelligent people and try to impress them with your choice. You should be ashamed of yourself, not bragging about it.

In all honesty I had know idea what material I was getting. I asked for something unique and that is what I got. I trusted his judgement as an artist and craftsmen and couldn't be happier. Most of his work comes from corporate America and executives that want exotic materials for there office, den or bike etc. Whether it's alligator, ostrich or elephant it's all out there, just take a look around. It may not be your cup of tea but it certainly has an appeal to many. I asked for your opinion and got it,thanks.

Elephants don't live forever. And if one dies and you take it's hide and make a badass seat like that out of it, I'm all for it. Got news for you super intelligent people out there. The poachers don't give a f&*k how smart you think you are, or how self-righteous you get talking about elephant hides. They're gonna do what they do anyway. And breaking your arm patting yourself on the back for being such a good person isn't going to stop any poachers. Only thing that will stop them is another guy in the bushes with a gun.

Wow!!! Cool thread. Who knew a seat could get the boys all riled up? I kill, skin and eat tasty animals on a regular basis. I have even been known to hang a head or two on my wall when the trophy warranted. I have never had a desire to shoot an elephant, but I would remind our learned members that it IS legal to take an elephant in Africa. I realize that the general perception out there is that once a species is endangered it stays endangered but alligators ****ed sure didn't and I can remember when they couldn't be hunted either...and I have to wonder about the "list" anyway. The Scimitar Horned Oryx was due to go on the list last year because whoever runs around in the bush and counts them said there weren't enough. They refused to count the herds on private land in Texas leading to a situation where landowners were having a fire sale on hunts that could have decimated about 2/3 of the critters left on the planet. BTW...Scimitar Horned Oryx are VERY tasty. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed. Incidentally...The African elephant is not "endangered". The WWF lists it as "Vulnerable" which puts it in the same category as the Great White Shark.
