I'm not good with rule's so I tend to stay away from these sort of organized rides. Got kicked off my first and last Hog ride. I was invited to go when I brought my Harley. I got banished for overtaking the road captain and telling him to #uck off when he gave me a serve for it. Just did an overnighter with about 30 of the mates I ride with and had a ball . Did all the back roads to Maryborough and back. Only 2 rules keep up if you can and there are no rules.

Thanks for the info Nolton & all. I enjoy both riding alone and in groups as well. Too many rules?...Well, I can understand how it might seem that way, but when riding with a group it is very important to have some guidelines. The primary purpose in any group ride should be to insure all riders get from point A to point B safely.

I would hesitate to call the Ride Nazi's style as "parade". I remember following him along Tracy road in the Adirodacks and at the end of that jaunt my font brakes were smoking and the discs were a nice blue colour!

Paul, that brings up another good point! If someone is "on your ass" in the turns...DO NOT TRY &N SPEED AWAY FROM HIM as soon as it straightens out...WAVE HIM BY...and follow...

This is NOT a race...

When we were riding Tracy Road, that time Triple Trouble is referring too, I was on an FJR...I told the group that I would follow each of them a bit & then pass & follow the next one a bit, while I videoed them.

Someone (I forget who) said, "What if we don't let you pass?" I said, "I don't care if you let me pass or not. Just stay in your lane & don't run me off the road."

When you watch this, turn down the volume...there was a bad rattle on camera mount, which I never edited out when I made these movies...

Part one

Part two

Nobody was in my mirrors for part 2...so I was just "cruisin"...
But Triple trouble was not far behind...the first one to show up!!! He was already there before I did the 1st U-turn...then the others followed in...

I recall the last day ride to Hervey Bay for the inaugural RDU. 20 (or was it 30?) Rockets thundering through Queensland countryside. No rules but we naturally fell in the double file and everyone stayed together. Awesome. Couldn't decide whether the view from the front with those 2 files of double headlights in my mirrors was better than the noise at the back. Spent most of the ride with a stupid grin on my face.

The only rule I believe in, about passing the leader is once u are in front u r now responsible for where you àre headed.

Last MV RAA had events that never should have happened.
Several people there for the first time, were left behind at a fuel stop. By the time they found their way back, they rightfully had some resentments.
As a ride Captain I made some mistakes.
A simple mistake from a passenger, caused some delays.
Last minute changes, while riding, split a few riders from the group.
Pulling out from a stop, some riders don't know if they should go or give way to the rider waiting to roll.
These are just a few of many that can turn a fun ride into resentment and confusion.

Most of these rules were established by others before me and they work.
In general, if your not going to get lost and someone else in the group knows the way. Any rider is welcome to split off from the group. Just let someone know so the head count doesn't turn into confusion.

Andy is the SS of Ride Nazi.
