Getting worried about reliability

Honestly, I do it by feel. There’s a procedure in the manual, but I like the feel method.

I do it by slacking the adjuster at the lever, then slowly tighten it until it takes a few mm of pull to take all the slack out. You can feel the difference at the arm down on the motor of when it’s totally slack and when it’s just starting to engage. Here:

Just leave it in neutral running on the side stand. If you go directly to the pictures lever and slightly move it like it moves when pulling the lever at the bar, can you feel a slight vibration go away? You should. The fork internally just flops around under the plunger until the lever gets pulled slightly.

Or just use the manual, it’s easier to do if your not familiar with how it should be, but the feel method is vastly quicker once you know what to look for.

Just thought of something else that “might” do it:
Check your shift linkage down on the pedal, ensure it’s all tight, that the everything has as little slack in it as possible.

Thinking back to when I was working on my linkage, when it had a bit of slop N was a bit hard to find.

Normal behavior: start the bike in gear with lever pulled, and try to hit N. Sometimes this can be a challenge, release clutch a touch to move the bike an inch or two, pull clutch, find N.

Abnormal would be: Pull up to a light , try find N, can’t find it.

I will give it a try. So where is the 3mm adjustment? The picture you show should have move 3mm when you tighten the cable or the lever should move 3mm before it pulls the cable?

Not sure if that made sense.

Anyone make an adjustment video?

A good question! I’ve never done it by the manual to be totally honest lol, was a similar thing to leave some free play that I had on my race car so I already knew what to feel for.

the 3mm or 1/8 inch is the gap between lever & start if resistance when engaging clutch.

Thank you all for your help. As you all stated, my adjustment on the clutch was quite a ways off. After the adjustment, I am now able to hit neutral while the bike is running.

:D

Awesome, I swear it’s like magic :) Even the dealers mess this up.

I hope mine holds up. Sometimes I ride easy but others I hammer the thing trying to wheelie and wheel spin. I’ve even been guilty of not letting off the throttle while try to clutch and shift in a millisecond.:p

If I tear it up I’ll write a check to fix it. It’s mine and I’ll drive it as I **** well please. Who buys a Rocket to to ride like an old nag? Not me.:sneaky:

Preach on!! I’ve cut that check and have no regrets!
