I have begun to run 89 always. I ran the highest I could get out of habit from my old bikes, (but they really just need the lead, not the octane) and the wisdom of this forum convinced me to change my ways. Seems fine, (maybe better?) on the 89.
 
Jack 89 is fine. It'll run on 87, but there is a bit of difference in performance. You don't need anything higher than 89 until you start adding Jardines, Tuneboy, etc.
 
I guess it's 'cause I'm a rookie and don't know any better, but I followed both the book and dealer's advice and have been running 87. :? Seems to run fine for me, and a lot lighter on the pocketbook...I'll bet if I put better fuel it'd feel like nitrous. :shock:
 
I've been running regular. No need for the higher octanes. The compression is rather low. To this date I've never had any problem running 87 (US 87)

...I've heard the air in Jersey is high in octane as well.
 
Running 87 at altitude(Colorado) anything more and it's a waste..
