I probably do not have the proper name, but it is probably there . I first came in contact with this California mess, with the BMW oilheads. It is designed to capture any gas that over fills the tank. Drains to a charcoal canister , then vacuum lines carry the fumes to the throttle bodies.
Nice idea except that they developed small leaks in the system that caused a lot of problems. The best solution I found was to remove the system , and cap off the throttle bodies. Worked great on several BMWs , plus some Moto Guzzis.
When I was putting my bike back together I saw the vacuum lines going into the bottom of the throttle bodies. They lead back to what appeared to be a switch. That is as far as I got with the line tracing. To busy trying to figure out where everything else went.
Question >> Where is the canister, and has anyone pulled them out. Only place it is required is California.

I can tell you the Charcoal vapor canister is mounted under the left side panel on the touring model. I've never seen one leak anything. The system captures fuel from over filling, along with gas vapors from fuel tank expansion.

While the engine is running, vacuum from the intake pulls the vapors from the canister into the intake for burning in the combustion chamber. When the engine is not running, the canister holds all vapor until the engine restarts. Thus the name; "Closed system."

The system costs NO horsepower and if I'm not mistaken, all 50 states now require them. Not just CA. If you remove the vapor canister, besides capping off the injector body ports, you will need to get a ventilated gas cap. The OEM cap is part of the "closed system." It allows air in as the fuel level lowers in the tank, but will not let vapors out to to the atmosphere. Cap off, or remove the vapor canister and you need to allow vapor from expansion to exit the fuel tank. That means a vented fuel tank cap. Clear as mud? :D

The canister was gone. Two if the ports were capped . The three hoses "T" into one hose that goes to a switch or sensor . As soon as I touched that hose it fell off. I'll have them capped tomorrow.
