Funky noise, not paint can

There are quiet a few overlapping plastic pieces on the shroud. And yes B-man it is better to take the wind out of their sails. I would suspect there are one or two individuals around here just waiting for that open door.

should have ridden jimmys r3 when we did the le slow riding class. he has the 3 kn's also. this doesnt sound like pre ign to me. ill run the tank dry and use low octain and see what happens. ill try to record it but i have the feeling the wind noise will be a problem.
you know it would be soooo much easier if you guys lived in so. cal.
be pretty cool too.

I'm skeptical that this is a radiator shroud rattle, it just doesn't sound like that. But, I'll defer to the experience and age induced wisdom of the other members and pull the shroud to see if that's it.

I wouldn't say that it sounds like a couple wrenches slapping together, it's more of a clack and I might be high but I swear I can feel it in the footpegs.

I can be cruising along with no odd sounds at all and then all of the sudden, with little to no change in throttle... clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, thunk, clack and then it's gone again. And every once in awhile, it's a screech like a bearing going out.

I don't know how to describe it or what to compare it too, I've heard the sound before in other things that I've messed around with like an old kitchen mixer that had the disc which held the mixing bowl which sat on a ring of bearings to allow it to spin, you could spin it by hand too fast and it would make a "BVVVVVVVV" sound and then as it slowed, it would stop and just keep spinning. That's what it sounds like but most of the time it's just the clack.

I know it's not the paint can rattle because I can hear that on cold startup as the RPMs climb up and down right after you start it, they go up and as they come back and I can hear a "tack, tack, tack" coming from the front of the motor, this clack only happens in gear, doesn't not depend on speed of the bike, only RPM and only happens under load, it does not do it on decel in gear.

Driving me nuts...

My clutch assembly seems a little out of balance. Can feel It In the peggs and clutch lever..You can pull the chrome cover and have a peek..Clutch bits are easy to get to..(I'll defer to the experience and age induced wisdom of the other members and pull the shroud to see if that's it.) ----Age and treachery will overcome youth and knowledge...Crazy Jack

Found it!

On the cat bypass, the rubber grommet on the left side (only one, there are 2 on the right side) vanished causing it to rattle and clunk against the peg that holds it in place.

Not sure if that was causing the screech or not though, we'll find out when I get a new grommet on there.

That's a good thing. Things vanish off this bike like they used to vanish off the Meriden bikes.............Must be the lineage.

I lost the oil tank filler cap on my '68 and it was a twist and lock variety. Back in the day, the saying was if you rode a Trumpet or a Beezer, you rode in a blizzard of nuts and bolts.:D

I was thinking the same thing Flip. On my '70 Bonnie, the vibration even got to my license plate causing it to break off.

Glad you found the problem 33.
