Fuel tank compatibility between models 2004-2012

Hi.
Bought a cheap 2004 rocket3 with a badly damaged tank. Hard to find one in good money.
Question I have are the tanks from different models /apart from touring with the console/ interchangeable? The tank I have will fit 2004-2009 BUT can I also get a 2011 tank and will it fit my bike? This would certainly greatly enrich the searching grounds.
Unfortunately the tank I have is damaged beyond repair.

They list the tank from 2004-2007 on eBay. Not sure if that's bulletproof info though. Shopping in USA or UK is a nono due to duties and tax - not for my el cheapo ass.

If you know any truckers who come to Glasgow area in Scotland i have a repairable tank for 04 ,got a dent on left side . you can have it for free .

Part #s are the same and easy to verify at hermys online parts. I just looked.
