I have a 245 50 raptor and need a new front. The local shop has a Bridgestone excedra (not the max)

These are the ones that come on a Valkyrie. I've read the max changes the bike height, is that just the rear?

You have a car tyre on the back, why not try a tractor one on the front? Sorry, made me do it.

Seriously, there's a heap of discussion on here about the various fronts - Metz, Avon (my pick), Bridgestone Exedra (not a Max), Dunlop, Shinko. Some have gone to a Michelin Commander II, which doesn't come in stock size. They're using a 140/70 from memory. There's a whole thread specifically discussing that option. On the front a different size has less effect on height than it does on handling characteristics - which presumably won't bother you; you'll just have to get used to it. ;)

ignor the sarcasim  of the previous posters, I also run a 245/50 car tyre and it handles every bit as good as any bike tyre, I am running the Avon Cobra on the front and it feels fine, if you were to go to the Michelin Comander II you would lose a small amount of height in the front end but you will gain sharper faster turning Steering due to the slightly shortened Rake cause by the smaller diameter tyre, there has been some very happy guys that have tried the Michelin I personlly love the feed back I am getting from the Avon but may try the Michelin on the front next, I would have done it this last time but they were not yet available here in Auss at the time :)

I'm now using the Avon Cobra up front and love it ill never return to the Metzeler. . Don't listen to Hanso he crashed his bike lol ....................................... The line is out now we wait lol .................c'mon Hanso just a joke mate lol
