I don't really have a preference; depends on the bike. Pegs would look goofy on a large touring bike, IMO. But, I'm just as comfortable with either. Again, just depends on the bike. I wouldn't have dreamed of putting pegs on my R3T, but I wouldn't dream of putting boards on my T-Bird; would totally ruin the look of the bike, IMO.
As far your being able to corner easier, it's likely because your foot is at more of an upward angle with pegs and this is allowing you to use your legs more to push; allowing you to lean easier. I don't think a lot of folks realise just how much you can use your legs to assist with steering a bike. I've never really paid any attention to the difference between pegs and boards in that regard, but I could see it working that way.
