Ah caught by the wind machine I see,. Dark dark lets see what we have here. Soft, summer extreme handling I would guess and Z rated. Lots of choices in brands to fit a 16in. rim but 205 is the narrowest you can go with it and the fender is the outer limit say a 250 or 245 I think someone said started rubbing 2up. Good luck and welcome.
I was riding behind Bob a couple of weeks ago on our way to Alabama for a vintage MB show. Not sure what Darkside he has but it sticks to the road on the sraight or the curves. He said that I could try it but I think he was telling me porky pies.
I have right close to 20,000 miles on my 225/50/16 Goodyear F1. Loved every mile, much wider and the drive shaft will hit. wider-narrower-taller-lower. buy what you like, my worn out metz was 80" in circumference, my new F1 was 79". I will change it out this winter. It would run it longer but it does'nt bother me to change it out early, as I feel I have gotten decent value out of it, this way I will change it at my conveince.
Some postings say that a 245, depending on the brand, will rub the shaft housing in a turn. You also have to consider fender clearance as well. Stock length shocks may have a little bit of rubbing over bumps. Remember, the wider you go the more counter-steer effort required. the 225 is a good compromise (sp?) between looks and rideability, imho.
It is for sure going to be close, and the brand of tire will make a difference. I have no more thatn 3/8" clearance on the Goodyear eagle F1. Tire profiles change from mfg. to mfg. Your going to want to but the raised white letters on the other side
Did you put the Metz motorcycle tire in your calculator in the example you posted? I wonder if motorcycle tire sizing translates to car tire sizing? (It very well may, I have no idea.)
Has anyone actually measured the rolling circumference of an inflated Metz? I do know that tires do "grow" a bit when you inflate them. If no one has I'll give it a go this weekend and see how big it is. I'm just curious. It sounds like through trial and error that 225/55R/16 may be the way to go and the 245/50/16 if you ride solo and want to push the limits
From what I was told, the standard tire sizes translate from m/c to car tire. I entered the Metz's 240/50-16 into the calc. I've been very happy with the 225/55.
I have about 12k on a Yokohama 245/50 ES100. It will rub when 2 up on a hard bump, but not much. I can not see any wear on the sidewall. Next year I plan to go 225.

Somebody once said, it's like riding with a constant cross wind. This is a very good description of the counter steering necessary on crowned and opposing sloped sweepers. The latter of which I've encountered very very rarely. I guarantee you, the first mile or two will have you questioning why you would go this route. But the uneasy feeling is all over after a couple trips around the block.
Flea market pot holed dirt drives and patched grassy parking areas will be a challenge. I wouldn't change back for love nor money. On the otherhand, if Paulson would grant me a chunk (a sliver would be enough) of that 700B I'd give a Metzler another go.
