First Push of the Beast

Thanks for the advise TomCat,
It shall indeed take me some time. I sure am glad I didn't move those pegs as I was originally thinking and I'm NOT going to do apes, even though I love them. This thing handles way too well.

I have moved the engine guard pegs up 1.25 inches (31.75 mm) as they were scraping a tad worse than the stock pegs. Yesterday's break-in ride had a lot of 25 mph (40 kph) and less curves and I wore off half of those little feeler thingos already. It's amazing how nimble 807 pounds (366 kg) beast can be.

This is my very first shaft drive and I'm having to work some at smooth acceleration out of the corners. Been a long time since I have ridden a motor that takes me to school. I was NOT expecting SO much more than just a cruiser from this motor. It has gotten some long dormant juices moving.

Sorry for the windy post - this fu**er just makes me feel younger!

Bull, you and I both don't like apes, but after I put a set of "pull backs" on mine, the effort factor was improved greatly. I am youth challenged too and the handle bar change made all the difference in not fatiguing nearly as fast. The feel of control is definitely enhanced.

Did you buy them or have them made?

First push

Take your time!
I didn't run it to redline for the first 1500 miles while getting used to the bike.
Once you are friends you'll run it in 2nd and 3rd through those turns and enjoy yourself.
90 is the new 60 :bch !

Thats no lie but you cant convence the cops that its all good.
90 feels like your just crusing and scraping pegs just dont feel that far over.
I really had to back down from riding like that when I got back to Louisiana. Too ****ed many road issues.

If you plan to ride like that more often, start shopping for tires.;)

Man, I be with you there already! I ride pretty hard, especially for a geezer. Have put on 20 - that is twenty tires - on my V2K since late 2004. Usually get about 4K to 6K rear and 12K to 15K front. After 4 sets, I have found Metzelers not too good for my V2K. Good grip, low life and bad cupping on the front. Been liking Dunlops, Stone second place.

FUN is SPEED
SPEED is HP
HP costs $$$
So do good tires

From what I have seen around here, this Stone Excedra seems to be the ticket for the rear. I did find on the V2K that when I went from the stock 200/60-16 to a Dunlop Elite 3 in 180/70-16 my handling improved - sharper, quicker, easier. Anyone try a little narrower profile on the rear of the beast???

I get them from my next door neighbor MC mechanic "Mugsy" at Alien Cycle. When I first got my STD I rode it down to his shop and placed my hands in the air where I wanted them to be while riding. He took out his tape, did some measurements and the rest is history. I just ordered the second set for the Roadster. I'll let you know if I have to make any changes in cables or wiring.

I LOVE apes! I have 16 inchers on my V2K. Check out my gallery. Due to the handling limits of my V2K, the apes are way comfy, do not diminish what handling there is and . . . I think they look way cool. This animal on the other hand, yields so much MORE and so far gives me everything I can handle. I do not want to diminish ANYTHING and ape hangers would surely do that, IMHO.

Well I have surely blown that premise; but, I have not sustained any serious RPM. I know it's boulder solid up to 120 mph.

And just what would the prudent motorist and the deception doctrine do??? :D

To me, "apes" type bars are those when your hands are above your head. I've ridden many a mile with your "ape" type bars 'cept mine were the "H" style with a short brace inbetween. Seems you and I have similar history.
