This has nothing to do with whether triples flow better than Singles or that sort of rot.

But shows that Triumph OEM filters FLOW well and that simply dropping in an OEM replacement K&N may not do what you thought.

OK it was done on twins and all that guff - but read between the lines. Sobering for some no doubt.

Plain simple truth is that a GOOD pleated paper filter works well.

Only found this by accident whilst looking for pictures of R3 filters and saw this

Oh well!

It was published here years ago that dyno testing proved no gain from dropping in a K&N and about 5 hp gain from the under tank filter. The plastic plumbing is the restriction and needs to be removed for larger hp gains with ECU tuning etc.

Guess I'm not that surprised either, I won't go so far as to say an air filter is an air filter... but I would have been surprised if there had been a massive difference between them. Why would Triumph mount bad crap for such a relatively cheap item?

I went with the Ramair just becaues it is more elegant, gives some nice intake roar to "uncivilize" the bike a little and also for the extra airflow.

The only meaningful advantage of a K&N drop in filter is the serviceability. Thought everyone knew that. Even with triples or Ramair, the biggest advantage is removal of the plumbing and subsequent ease of access to the top of the engine and throttle bodies. There are flow benefits but generally not realised without further changes to the exhaust, tune or engine. Maybe a filter isn't a filter, but a good filter is a good filter.

To me, ( unless I am missing something) the test is meaningless without retuning the bike for each filter. There is at least 5hp between the worst and best AF lines. Looks like the uni is also wet with oil...... Let the naysayers begin.

OK - Pigeon fanciers - have another cat.

Five Brownie-points to the first one who sees what this is.
There is a tiny clue bottom left.

And no! - I'm not suggesting you do it - I was bored.

I agree NEV

I just installed ramair....noticeable power increase....however sounds like I have a bird chirping under claw which chirps more quickly as I roll throttle. Is this normal?
