Exhaust System Help

A head to head comparison would be the only way to settle which system is king, but CES clearly has come up with something that has merit.

Yep...the shorties are history

Morris, I love ya like a brother. Your rocket is a thing of beauty. But thank god you got rid of the shorties ! That was the worst sounding exhaust I've ever heard on a motorcycle. As the three stooges said "thow's best friend should have toldeth thee" ;)

Bruce said,. Neville Lush told me when I was getting my pipes designed, not to expect any more than 165hp from a stock rocket. As that's about the best possible in his opinion and I think he would know. " What I actually said was 168 is the best I have ever got from a stock engine with exh and filters. So anything around 165 will be very good. I have not used a Bob Carpenter pipe on a stock engine , but have seen them on modified motors. Everyone is huing up on the top number, why is that?? No-one every uses the bike WOT for more than a few seconds, hardly ever. HOW THE BLOODY BIKE RUNS is way more important. Do some power tests at half throttle and see what happens, look at the power at 3000rpm etc etc If you are going to do an exact comparo, the bike needs to sit on the dyno and test all three on the same dyno after tuning all three ( or however many) pipes. Even then the look of it will sway 85% of owners, or a cool name for your part or a sticker. Be empirical and objective with the comparison , not emotive, then you would now which offers the best power. Then try and make it look cool and sell for $ 3.55 :). I am glad I do not make exhausts, but it IS real hard to get a good performance exhaust made. Have a nice day folks

YEP its hard to make everyone happy some want to talk about making power at 3000 rpm and others want to make max hp and win 1/4 mile drag races and top speed contests and others are interested in looks only SO ya cant make em all happy

I don't find too many riders willing to drag off from a stop.
Once in awhile I like to peg the top end speed (only 130).
But frequently I have occasion to wick it from 50 -60 mph to grease another vehicle.
I feel I'd prefer to load it up from 3K RPM up. Especially when choosing to drop a gear or two.
Just my 2 centavos . . . Can't wait until I can get those CES and then hit the dyno!
PS: how far is it to Carp Racing from Tacoma?????????? :whitstling:

THERE ya go you want to race or pass other bikes etc from 3k rpm BUT you wont win any races against a Rocket thats tuned correctly and he will leave you for dead Are you going to tell the other rider he can only race you if he keeps his bike at the same 3k rpm as you ?

ITS always fun to meet the competition at a Dyno shootout or Dragstrip for some grudge racing that stops all the guessing and Crap talking But none of the bull shooters ever show up ???

Why do you assume mine would be tuned incorrectly?

And why assume everyone wants to race? I have no interest in that; my bike gives me pleasure from the way it feels to ride it. I said somewhere in another thread that the CES headers really brought my bike alive from 1,500-3,500rpm. And that's exactly where I want it. Doesn't mean I don't like to give it plenty and do so often. I just don't feel the need to continuously try to prove mine's faster than someone elses.

In case there is anyone out there still considering running shorties take it from me...they look cool but suck in every other department...performance, sound...everything
