I know some may think this is a backward step but...

I rented a bike recently and it was very quiet and I couldn't help thinking how nice it was. Also I'd like to be able to mount a stereo at some point and be able to hear it.

I am contemplating putting my stock exhaust back on. The bike came with TORs mounted and the stockers in a box. The CAT is also in a box.

My questions are...

Is it a big job to switch them out?

Do I have to put the CAT back on?

Will I need to re-MAP. The bike has a PC3 and I believed was tuned on a Dyno.

Potentially stupid question... Is there anything that can be done to make the TORs quieter? It's just that I think they look way better than stock

Cheers

I'm thinking the same thing- too loud on long trips plus my girlfriend hates it. I want to go from jars to tors, though. If you end up doing it I'd be interested in the tors, if they'd fit an 08

Holy chit, a pyramid!

The Tors are from (or will be) a 2007 Classic. I'll keep you posted.

Not sure what you're wearing on top, but after getting to Germany I switched from a bucket to a modular full helmet. Because of that I don't find the tors overly loud. I'd say you'll probably need a retune with the stock, whether you take or leave the cat?
Izzo, if j3 doesn't switch I've got an extra set of tors (long story).

You won't need to put the cat box back in. The cat delete crossover will make the stock pipes sound a little deeper but probably not louder and it will run a little better without the cat. TORS and stock pipes look the same, although on the earlier Rockets the three pipes did splay out somewhat. I presume that's the point you're making about the TORS looking better. I guess you could try slipping an aftermarket baffle in the end of the TORS to quieten them down. Most bike shops should have some for under $20 each. The challenge with that would be finding a way to keep them in place.

Just to throw in something else, I recall that Dennsel replaced just one of his TOR pipes (or was it 2?) with a stock pipe to reduce the noise level with less impact on performance. Each pipe would have a different effect ie replacing the left one would presumably reduce the noise level the least.

interested to see what you come up with.
I'd like to get rid of the 3 pipe setup on mine. Just bothers me for some reason.
1 pipe would be fine. 2 would be fine. Either on the same side or one on each. Just not a big fan of the 3 pipe look.

Someone on here has removed the left pipe and closed off the outlet.
Someone else had 4 pipes - 2 on each side. Jetman - pics in his or Binnsy's (rip) gallery I think.
TrirocketIII has 6 pipes.
Thunderbike (for one) does a 2 pipe on the same side, which does away with the cat box/by pass altogether.

Must say I do like the symmetry of 1 each side., myself.

The tides do change on this forum.. Personally i love the look of those three pipes hanging out the back it scares the he!! out of those Harley riders...
