Enlisting Mufasa for Salt Duty

Oh, I don't follow the manual on the neck bearing adjustment. My first set went bad and was notched at like 6000 miles because of that procedure and I had to replace them. This was with the UK trained tech doing the adjustment in Hawaii.

Since I replaced here in WA, and developed my own procedure I've not had an issue with steering bearing since.

Triumph transfered the double ball bearing procedure from other models over to a design that uses dual taper rollers, so I don't care what they say, IMHO its wrong.

I believe I've found my divergent weave root cause. Still doing new bearings today for good measure. Zero play in headstock, but I'll have a set on hand + tools if it persists.

Funnily enough, I had the steering damper cranked to max when I lifted the front end, the revised mounting point nearly doubled the force exterted on steering, so that's a big win.

The actual balance point is with the visible wheel weights at 4:30 clock position.

Again, a dealer demonstrates they're trash and not to be trusted.

Will be buying one of these to avoid putting my faith in "mechanics" in the future:
What balancer are you using? I am looking for a good one.

Similar to this. Just be sure it's level across both planes and the rod is actually straight. I returned two before getting one with a straight axle. Brand is largely irrelevant, from bargain bin to top shelf, they can all come with fubar axles.

The stupid modern steel stick on weights are the challenge because they suck, they're so hard to trim down (nigh impossible). I ended up using 3 pieces of 2"x3" black tape to get the balance just right.

Even if the event isn't canceled, this does not bode well for getting a big number.

I'm so disappointed and heartbroken already.
Hopefully you can make a few runs just to justify the effort involved, other than the satisfaction of seeing the completion of a major undertaking. I'm sure I speak for everyone that we are proud of you and your accomplishments.

Today didn't look promising, T-Storms w/hail, showers overnight too.

On a positive note....the bike needed this very intense maintenance done anyways. Pretty much everything that moves outside the engine was service or replaced with new parts so....maybe October if Speed Week is shutdown.

Final test ride complete, bikes on 0 miles to empty. 139.5mph on the GPS test done with no issues.

Last bit of divergent wobble finally fixed, of all things: it was too tight headstock bearings causing it. Pulled the front apart last night, serviced and retourqed as it's supposed to be and no more death weave.

Now it behaves like a rocket with a small front tire, tall back tire and slammed low front forks. Loose, nimble, very flickable, light on the bars and slightly unstable at high speed but self correcting. This is how I'd leave it for street duty.

For the salt, I'll raise the front end up again to gain that 20mm back, the reset the shocks to lowest setting since I tried raising them a bit today. This should take the 1 degree forward chassis tilt I have as is back to -0.5 degrees, and gain stability.

Here's hoping for light weather and high heat!
