I have a '13 Touring, and the GPS has been screwing quite often. I open it up, clean it, relube it and put it back together again. After a few miles, it messes up again and doesn't indicate neutral. Since this is the only gear indicated on this machine, what happens if I just disconnect it entirely. I know it serves to tell the bike to shut off if put in gear when the stand is down, but the last time I did that was in 1971 on a Honda 350 scrambler! Can I disconnect this without damaging anything or disrupting the bikes proper running?
Thanks for the help!

Greetings, I initiated this post a few years back because I was having a lot of trouble with the Gear Position Switch not indicating neutral. I have removed, cleaned and reinstalled it many times to no avail! Advice posts say to remove it, spray with electrical contact cleaner and replace. They also say to lube the O-ring with a bit of Vaseline, but I have learned over the years that that can degrade rubber components. However, interestingly enough, I read that coconut oil is ideal for O-rings as it helps lube AND restore some of its suppleness! So, I used the contact cleaner inside the switch, blew it dry with canned air and reinstalled the O-ring. I then put a LIGHT coat of clockmakers oil on the moving parts and put everything back together. The clockmakers oil is SUPER SUPER light weight (almost like water!) and you only use a tiny bit. So far, so good...everything is working as it should!

Oh, and when you put the bolts back in, only torque them to 5N/M or 3.6 Ft/lbs. That is just a shade over finger tight. Don't crank them down...moving parts gotta move to work!
