Hi everyone. New to the forum and looking for some help if possible?
Just had my Rocket III MOTd this morning. Passed with no advisories. On journey back home and slowing down at a junction I attempted to shift down a gear. At first I thought I was doing something stupid but the selector didn’t want to change gear up or down. It was totally floppy and felt disconnected.
At the time I thought it was a linkage problem and managed to nurse the bike home in 4th gear.
Upon investigation I noticed the linkage appeared fine and was doing everything it should be.. including turning the shaft.
At no point on journey home did the bike make a worrying sound. No crunch or bang!
My rocket touring is a 2010 model and has completed 24k serviced miles.
Does anyone know what the likely cause is? Is it fairly common? I think there may be a nut at the other end of gear selector shaft.. and wonder if it’s worked its way loose?
Not an expert at all and hoping you guys can shed some light. Thanks very much.
