hi all, i have 2009 r3, do these models have ignition problems and do i need the relay kit, havent had any problems at all, i only have 10,000ks on it,i reckon these bikes are awesome.

All twin headlight rocket till 2011 roadster will eventually do it because of the full load of the twin headlights is going thru the ignition switch there have been guys that have had the ignition switch replaced more than once. When it goes can depend on how when you ride, if you only went on long ride in the country and don't get stuck in traffic will get more air flowing over the bottom of the switch and it will last longer but as in the case of a mate after nearly 50,000klm his bike started to miss and carry on he only just made it home when he look at the bottom of the ignition switch the wire was only just hanging on the there was extensive heat damage to the insulation on the wire.
The EB kit or you can make your own (I have made 4 for mate so far) takes the load away cos it only draws about 3amps thru the ignition switch to switch the relays.
I cannot stress enought DON'T Wait do it now before it leaves you strand next to the highway, triumph only acknowledged the problem with an recall on the 2011 model roadster probaly because it was starting to cost them to much in ignition switches

Yes, the headlight relay kit, whether the EB kit or roll your own, is mandatory on all twin headlight models prior to the Roadster. The EB kit is worth the money.

Does anyone exactly what recall upgrade does to the Roadster, I had mine done last week, it took the dealer about 2 hours to do but they could not tell me exactly what the recall does.

Similar result to the EB kit but only uses a single relay.

My understanding is it adds one extra relay to the headlight circuit with the intent of reducing the amp load on the ignition switch. Unless it also puts the battery power directly onto the lights, it's not a full fix. I'd have to see the schematic on the recall to know for sure.

I had the recall done on my 2010 Roadster. I took pics of what they did, posted them on here and basically asked the same question "exactly what the recall does?" I never got what I was looking for in which I wanted to hear "same as the EB kit" so I dont have to worry about my ignition switch. lol

Anybody out there can give a better explanation I would appreciate it. I don't want to be stranded somewhere and don't want to buy the EB kit and it's already fixed via the recall. You see what I'm saying?
