G'day guys, can anyone help me out with any info on the best way to change coolant and how to bleed the system.. My bike is a 08 model.. Just want to make sure i do it right.. Thanks peeps...:D

Refer to shop manual. Drain at the lowest point. I'd remove and flush out the expansion tank as well. Flush out well (with clear water)....and

Finally, I'd refill with extended life coolant (the amber stuff). It's much better than Ethylene Glycol, has a better thermal coefficient (transfer from heated coolant to radiator heat exchanger) and techinically, it will last the life of the bike.

I've switched all my water cooled bikes to it. It won't mix with conventional (ethylene-propolyene) anti-freeze however.

I've been using Engine Ice for a couple of years. So far I've run the factory fill, straight distilled water, distilled water with Water Wetter, and finally Engine Ice. I switched to Engine Ice based on a recommendation from a local mechanic I trust. Over the last two years I've had no cooling system issues and we get some fairly warm temps here.

BTW, none of the fills showed any noticeable difference in coolant temps as reported by a Scangauge. So, all the claims about reducing operating temps are, in my opinion, not valid. There may advantages to some formulations that someone like Flip can attest to. I do know that I've seen temps above 230 in the summer, and I always carry a new radiator cap since that seems to be the first point of failure in the cooling system.

From the RP website:

Distilled water and / or demineralized water should not be used if you elect to run a mixture of straight water and Purple Ice in your radiator.

Hmmmm...Purple Ice and Purple Rain, anything in common?

The reason why you replace anti-freeze is the heat-cool cycles degrade it and it eventually turns from Ph neutral to Acidic and it easts aluminum parts.

Extended life is just that. Sort of like using synthetic oil versus the old school kind.

No idea what Purple Ice is, and not really a fan of RP products in general. That said, with the mineral content of water in the Valley I would run nothing but distilled water.
