I got my 05 standard June of 14 and have 32k miles on it with no weirder noise than my rebel yell as I fly down the street. I have found out that my Rocket has not had the upgrades. I'm not worried about it. I am going to get an upgrade kit and fix it when it breaks. For me the juice is worth the squeeze:). I don't think I would pay 6k unless it had the kit installed.

The update kits are still available. Just got mine a couple months ago (it starts going in next weekend). Everything I've seen says $1600-$2000 labour. Gonna do it myself.

So Tomcat how much are the upgrade kits and where do you get them from? So I have excellent electrical/electronic skills(build my own stereo equipment) and very good mechanical abilities(rebuild my 2 stroke jetski engines and pumps). I'm thinking that I could handle the kit as long as there was adequate instructions. Is it a complete engine breakdown?

 I never said a word about update kits , don't really know anything about them to be honest. I've got a 2007 plated Rocket I bought new in 2009.

@TOMCAT i think he got confused and responded to you because I had quoted one of your posts in my reply ;)

I got mine from Andy at ncyyamaha.com for a little over $200 including shipping. The part number is T1000008 for black and T1000009 for silver engines. It comes with the tech manual instructions for each part in the upgrade.
It's not a compete tear down but the engine does have to come out.
I'm going to take Scott's (warp9.9) suggestion and try to do some photo video how to's as I progress through mine.

The labor time for a complete update kit ranges from about 16 to 20+ hours performed by a competent tech who's familiar with the territory. For a DIY install you can easily add about 20-25% on to that.
