Chrome in Bad Shape

Thanks for info. I will go powder coat route. I appreciate advice about the sand blasting. The guy I have used in the past has a huge sand blaster setup. It would probably destroy the trim.

I will probably buy chrome replacements as well. I would like to start accumulating spare parts for my Rocket. I have a 1985 GL1200 Limited Edition Goldwing that is still running strong but some of the parts are almost impossible to find.

I would say most powder coaters have their own sandblasting unit, the guy I used had his own..
I got a quote to rechrome my sisy bar $600-700 AUD NO WAY!!! But the quality was going to be perfect

I've used black plastidip on the headlight buckets and a few other chrome pieces including the bearclaw. Does the trick and gives a good matte black finish. Cheap, too.

Powdercoat the suckers having said that the few bits i have left chrome on my bike seem to be holding up ok. Everything that was chrome i smeared inside with grease right from when i bought the bike , headlight shells , fender covers etc.
****!!! there's some smart fellas on this site. I know it sounds simple but simple things don't always come to mind...How's that phrase go, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." and "Keep it simple stupid". Beautiful!!! a free nugget I'll use, Thx

A chrome plate shop will chemically strip the chrome off check the price as the part is not that expensive. I bought the set up for the earlier rockets (the one that flips the gauges forward before opening the tank) but will have to modify the cockpit Gary built to much to use it. I think the electronic compass unit it in the way but the price was only. The flip back one was only 73 bucks plus 35 for the bar mount and the bolts 2 for the flip back 4.38 and I bought the four for the handle bar clamp just in case 11.72.
I think the one for the 06 is cheaper because it does not flip back it bearly clears the gauges with the tank. NCY Yahmaha ask for Andy. You might like the flip back style better I will post a picture if you do not have the manual to show you.
