Attention ALL Electrical Guru's

As some of you know i posted the very same problem about 2 weeks ago, did almost everything posted(except check the back of the connection of the gauge itself), well the bike STILL at the dealer and they haven't even looked at it.

From what i have seen it seems to be a problem with the gauge itself.(speedo), once they figure it out(Christmas i suppose) i will update..

You are correct, it is in neutral, and the fuel light is on because the tank is lifted. It appears to function properly once the engine is started. Just nothing when key is first turned on.
Does your engine kill switch work properly? The Kill switch stops the ECU initiating sweep functions - just a thought.

it is nice for the comic relief unless you on the receiving end:roll::roll:
just my opinion when you first turn on the ign. you don't have enough voltage to operate the gauges but when you start the motor it is generating enough volts to work the gauges.
it is volt meter time. key on engine off one lead to engine the other on one fuse at a time to see which circuit is down on voltage. just because the fuse connectors look good on top doesn't mean they are good on bottom.
trouble may be at the ecu connector. or like has been said the gauge connectors.
its rough when your baby is sick:sick:
ps like what was said wiggle test:)

I have had the very same thing happen yesterday! I had the tank off to change the fuel filter and the speed gauge acted up after, just like yours.
It threw a 1690 error code, Turns out when I reinstalled the left side plastic frame cover, the one just ahead of the fuel tank, the wires
to the tank got pinched pulling on the connection under the tank. Easy fix but took me a while to trouble shoot. I suppose it could a lot
of different issues but this might be worth trying. I hope yours is as simple a fix. Needed to clear the error code after. FYI the fuel filter was pretty dirty
(31,000 miles) and it is running a bit smoother and stronger now.

It sounds like you are well on your way to fixing it, thanks @HansO for educating me as well.
On blocking people, I was going to block @1olbull, but anyone who has raced Carabelas has to have a second chance...

You, my friend have an excellent memory!!!
