valve check at 10,000 miles

My shop manual says to check valve clearance 10k;30k;&50k (10k under warranty)
Exhaust valves were 0.18 all six of them. 0.15 to 0.20 is ok per manual.
Inlet valves cyl.#1 0.13 0.15 cyl.#2 0.15 0.013 cyl.#3 0.15 0.15

I'm thinking what would make engine run better? set all exhausts at 0.155 mm
set inlets at #1 cyl. 0.13 0.125 #2 cyl. 0.125 0.13 #3 cyl. 0.125 0.125
the shop manual says shims come in 2.00mm to 3.20mm in increments of 0.025mm
so thats the best I can due for adjustments.
I'm not a good mechanic it takes me at least two times to get it right (reading manual rounding up the right tools, etc.
3-PIPES

If they are within spec, I wouldn't worry about it. It is a PITA to remove the cams and swap out shims.

Pig9r, Do you have to remove the cam to change shims?

I know with a Suzuki there's a tool that pushes down the bucket to give clearance to change the shim with the cam in place. I made my own tool for that , it worked not easily but it did work.

Just asking I really don't have a clue on the Rocket.

I did my own at 20,000 mi. Six were tight. Re-shimmed them all to the loose side of the tolerance since they seem to lose clearance. Makes the top end a little noisy when cold. But that's fine with me. If they get tight they can build carbon on the valve faces. This was the case on a V-65 Honda I bought many years ago. Had to pull the heads and re-lap the valves. BIG pita.

Had mine done at the 16 000 klm 10000 miles service bit of drama involved has they gave me a quote to do the service , then rang me up and said the valves need adjusting , no worries do it i said ,
that will be another 400 dollars approx they said ,
Why, i ask cos they need adjusting they say
Err thats why i put it in and got a quote on the major service

Yea but they don't normaly need doing just checking they said .

Well triumph have a warranty problem don't they , i said .

end result was i argued that they were doing and charging me for a major service , that they were a triumph dealer , and that they should know that service includes chech AND ADJUST valves , don't come and tell me its gonna be extra to adjust them ,

They honored there quote , but the explanation was ,

They said Triumph , have told them that due to hardly any rockets needing the valve clearance done at 16,000 they were to swap the 16.000 and 32,000 klm service around , and therefore the check and adjust should be done on the 32,000 service .

But it was triumphs fault because they had not notified owners , also the guy behind the counter being new had only quoted me for the minor service not the major one , but they would do me a favor by honoring it .

I actually left scratching my head thinking well Triumph forgot to tell owners , they forgot to tell me , and on top of that , the guy who give me the quote forgot to tell the mechanic which service he was doing , cos he checked them anyway , .

Then theres the issue with the black drive shaft oil , the brake pads they replaced which are grinding , 500 klm later and running real hot wether i use them or not , I think tomoro i better have a real word with the manager when i take it back .

Thats not to mention the Tbird i bought a few weeks ago being deliverd with

The backrest on back to front
The longhaul seat being held on with just a couple of turns on the back screw
The tors shorties exhaust popping and backfiring excesivly because it was left with air leaks .
The q r backrest not quick releas you just could'nt get it off.

And now i think about it , the butchering up of the allen screws all mangled after they put the tors on my rocket

After 3 new bikes in two and half years , you would think they would want to look after me .

Fack getting angry thinking about it

Had them checked today as part of 10000 mile service, all ok no adjustment required but frightening cost of service at £399 including new plugs & rear brake pads. Glad they didn't have to adjust them.

Jack that is actually a good price even if they did not do a oil change!! I have seen people get raped for more.

£399 at the current exchange rate is $638.16 seems high to me. Mine was $300.01 or £187.60 at today's rate.
