I think the clearances tighten up, not open. Alway better to set them to max clearance, re-did all mine when I fitted nev's cams, the cam set I got were an earlier batch that had smaller base circle so every shim needed replacing, my local dealer lent me their shim set, and a couple of nights spent measuring dropping the cams back in rebolting the cam ladder back down and rechecking, surprising when remeasured some needed more clearance, off with the cam ladder and out with the cams again........it was worth the effort tho, the bike hauls ass now. Has a more distinctive sound with nev's cams, I also fitted some iridium plugs while I was at it......;)

just got mine back from the shop at 11600 miles 1 intake too tight (.07), 1 intake too loose(.20), 1 exhaust too loose(.22). Painfu$$ but the old girl should be good for another 20k now. short of another front tire and 1 oil change

Checked mine, all within spec. The #2 cylinder exhaust side was at the loose end of the specs and will probably need some adjustment at 20K.

I thought the deal was, out of Triumph R&D originally, that there's the adjust @ 10K, then just checks every 20K but no adjust should be needed again until 100K... can't find this in writing anywhere, but it's what my original mechanic told me...

Hm, that's definitely different from what my owner's manual says. Clearly says next check at 30K, skips it at 20. Raleigh dealer didn't argue with me either, when I said I didn't think clearances needed checked for my 20K... will look into that further, I'd rather err on the side of conservative...
but I guess the other point I was making was, Triumph doesn't really expect further adjustment needed until 100K - has anyone else heard that?

Well, it's funny you should say that, because my (ex)mechanic said the same thing, adjust @ 10K, then check every 10K, then adjust again @ 100K
But my chart in my owners manual has "Valve Clearances Check" with the checkmark only on the 10K, 30K, 50K columns .........
