adjustment

Have not adjusted valves yet. Engine sounds and works fine! Will have a look at 20,000 miles.

Alright it says I voted already and wont let me vote on Fix-A-Flat II. Which by the way had 11 valves out of spec, the most he had ever seen, all loose.:( Do you have any idea what one of those shims runs? If you have to ask ..... :eek:Needless to say I'm sitting gingerly after this 10 grand checkup.

Valve shims from Triumph are $7.12 each.

Often you can swap shims from one "out of spec" valve to another to save buying new. If they are charging you for 11 "new" shims, ask for the old ones back! Just mic them, and re-use as needed.

$

The shims are $25 Aust each here.( new R3 is $25K roughly) Yamaha TT350 shims amongst others fit straight in with no grief and a portion of the cost.

Bob . . 11 valves is WAY out of whack!! I do believe I would be *****in about that one. Sounds like they were never right from the start. I do believe Dink charges by the book whether it takes 1 hour or 6 so the cost of the shims SHOULD be the only consideration.

That's why I'm going back tomorrow and getting the ones they took out. The mechanic that did the work went to Ducati school last week or I would have done it then. Yea something seems a bit strange, Dink didn't charge for the time just the shims. I'm down some on mileage and wonder if it's the luggage rack and back rest or just my relaxed attitude since going dark, and I'm not speaking politically, not that there is anything wrong with that..

Dink did mine when the headgasket blew. The bike had around 5500 miles and Triumph authorized him to go ahead and check them then. I'm not voting in the poll because I don't know if any were out or not. He didn't mention it if they were. Anyway, I'm good on service until around 15K. I think I'll probably shorten that to around 12 or 13K, however, or at least ask Dink about it. Of course, that assumes I'll keep the bike and I've still not made up my mind about that.

..had mine checked @ the 10,000 mile service last week..no shims needed I guess, as I understand it if they are out of adjustment, shims are required?..they changed spark plugs, changed oil and filter..idle adjustment as per service bulletin..$692.75....

budman, why did they change the spark plugs? I shouldn't be telling this on myself but I still had the original air filter in my 05 when I traded it in a month ago, it had 27k miles on it.

..I don't know..I assume it was part of the 10,000 mile service..I didn't think to ask how the old ones looked..not that it would have made any difference..personally, I probably wouldn't even have taken the bike in for the 10,000 mile service, but I wanted it to be documented with Triumph in case I might ever need it in the future..meaning that even though my bike is well out of warranty, should a major issue develop, maybe they will step up and fix it on their dime, as they have for others..
