Update - The Plot Thickens...
Ok, here is where I am with this. To start with, I figured that while the guy was in there, I might as well have him do the Eastern Beaver and the Starter Relay () mods. Yay for that - they are done!
I have my bike at an extremely reputable bike shop and not at the Triumph dealer because I have not been very comfortable with the way that the dealer does business with me (I have never actually seen dishonesty there, but I feel something is just off and I have been jerked around quite a bit). The reason I mention this is that the shop does not have the scan tool that helps in diagnostics, and that comes into play in a minute.
Ok, so the first time my starter went "click", the starter relay was bad. Then 3 days later, I had the same issue and thought it was chewing through the starter relays, but it turns out that it just blew the instrumentation fuse. The guy at the shop thinks in
might indicate a problem with either the instrumentation or the wiring to the instrumentation, but he checked out the wiring and it seems fine. He cannot say for sure without using the scan tool unless the bike does it again while he is testing it. I may need to take it by the Triumph shop and have them use the diagnostic scanner if it doesn't repeat by the time I pick it up. Or maybe it will never happen again since I did the Starter Relay mod? Thoughts on that?
Ok, the second issue is this (and where I
really need the help of the gurus here), my check engine light is on and when checked at the Triumph shop, they got a code that indicated the secondary throttle body or a wiring fault. They checked "everything" out at the time and couldn't find anything and told me that they thought the light was tripping because the butterflies had been removed and the bike was still looking for them, which is an explanation I don't buy. At the other shop, they have found that when you take the bike out and grab a handful of throttle, the bike will fall on it's face for a few moments before it gets together (does not do this if you use smooth acceleration, which I normally do). Since they do not have the scan tool, he is flying a little blind here but says that the most likely culprit would be the Secondary Throttle Position Sensor and that the bike IS telling us that there is a problem with the CEL light. His shop does not carry these for triumphs (work on mostly Harleys and Jap bikes) and he told me that I could order one and he could install it (Found this - is this right?
T1245010 Triumph Throttle Position Sensor,sec.)
The other question is, he needs to know the Ohm-Meter range for this part to install it correctly. Does anyone here have that?
I know this post may be raising red flags for the readers, but I do know people who swear by the honesty and integrity of this shop. I greatly appreciate any thoughts and help.
