It feels pretty quick for such an underpowered bike.

You have a 200+ hp 2.3, so you know how easily they could have gotten 200 hp from a 2.5. They are 7% bigger with about 7.5% more hp than the smaller motor that was designed 15 years ago. Basically followed HDs plan of bigger motors putting out basically the same power as the previous models.

The new Rocket will do the 0-60 in 2.73 so for this tribe we should be able to hit 3.0 seconds or under. That is pretty friggin fast. I know everyone wants to go bigger and faster but under 3 seconds is smoking. The bottom line is how good is the rider. I'm certain some on the older Rockets could beat some on the newer Rockets on the back roads due to skill and experience. It's all relative. As fast as I like to accelerate I'm thinking 2.73 to 3.0 second 0-60 is unbelievably fast.

I never wanted a 200 horse bike. I like the torque. That how the 2015 Rocket X was built.

There is some truth here I must admit but remember we had to modify to get our 200+ hp bikes. This new one will modify for good power in time. The first gen Rockets took a while to be developed for the power we now have. None are EPA compliant and could not be bought new as we have them now.

The new ECU throttle by wire bikes will take some new tech to break the barrier that we will break. I feel very happy to have one of each. What joy to wrestle over which one to take out for the day.

High lift cams cost Triumph the same as regular cams. A little bigger intake valve would have cost the same as what they put in stock. High compression pistons cost the same as low compression pistons. They could have built in more power for the same cost. Yes EPA/Euro regs are the biggest hurdle, but there are vehicles with less displacement making 200 hp and passing Government compliance. Yes we built ours for more hp, but Triumph could have done that from the factory too, especially since regs were not as stringent then. Why build such a massive motor and not make it king of it's class?

Bloke I know bought a Speed Twin and he couldn’t stop raving about how well it went. He did a few exhaust mods and K&N filter and was over the moon. Then he got the bike dyno’d and the number was lower than he was expecting. He had no complaints at all about the bike’s performance but went from a ecstatic to disappointed just because the dyno said 95 instead of 100 (or whatever the numbers were). Unless you’re wanting to win a peeing contest, isn’t the way the bike runs all that matters? Numbers are just numbers.

I always thought the best and cheapest performance mod I could have done to my old Rocket would have been a 150ci badge.....

I think the power is less important really. The torque makes it a great road bike. You’re jail levels of illegal in the blink of an eye anyway - for me, that ‘rear ended by a Japanese bullet train’ level of grunt actually does make it king of its class. The XDiavel and Diavel, both of which I’ve owned are truly great bikes, but this TFC makes me want to go ride, more than either of those ever did.
