Without using any Tune-boy or PCIII, is there a way to modify the bike to get 100% power in first 3 gears? I heard something about butterfly removal, and something about cutting a wire and installing a resistor to make the bike think its in 4th gear all the time.

Please give me some ideas. Thanks

With either of those two ways, you'll have the same problem -- The map will be wrong.

If you remove the butterflies, then the ECU will be mapped way lean in those areas where the butterflies would be closed.

I'm not sure about why 4th isn't a good idea, but I've read that you have the same problem. Perhaps the ECU cares about the gear?

BP is correcto. Fuel mapping will be wrong if you remove the secondaries or do the resistor. This was all covered in one of the resistor mod threads. Can't remember which but I do remember the big argument about it. :D

There are fuel maps for each gear which are different so locking the ECU into using just one map designed for the one gear messes up the fuel/air ratios.

There are not fuel maps for each gear; however, there are four different ignition maps, one for N, one for 1st, one for 2nd and one for 3rd-5th gears. The ignition is retarded slightly in 1st and 2nd gears to reduce power but advanced in 3rd - 5th. That is the whole point of the resistor install to make the bike run off of the 3rd-5th gear ignition map for "full power." This is not the first model of bike this mod has been done on. You are doing basically the same thing in tuneboy by copying the I4 map to I2 and I3. I just would not mess with N since it has a seperate ignition map.

I can confirm that the resistor mod works great for the price, (under 5 dollars). It is NOTHING like the tune Hombre has with tuneboy and Jardines and a free breathing intake. Thats per my seat of the pants. If I bought the bike tomorrow, and didn't have Jardines or a Tune Boy? I'd be at Radio Shack instead of typing this!
Only regret is that I didn't have any plugs to allow the mod to be a plug in and later an unplug instead of a cut wire in the harness.

Ah you are right about the maps, Ol Skool. There is only a secondary map for each gear. The fuel maps are for each cylinder.

Given that info I'd rather do the resistor mod than the secondary removal alone, though you can do both. Still, could argue this is the correct way to do it. It's still a hack, a good and cheap one but I'd still prefer doing it right with Tuneboy.
