Organizing a bow hunt in my neighborhood very soon - we'll get these little bastards in check around here! No lack for weaponry in NJ (reference The Sopranos!;)), just more deer per sq mile than practically anywhere in the lower 48!

I don't hunt. I understand that it needs to be done, I guess, but there's no way *I* could shoot one. Now, the day our society is fed up and decides it's okay/legal to have hunting season at the local maximum security prison, I'll be the first in line for a permit. ;)

In 1976 I bought a bran new HD Sewer Glide. I was headed out Hwy 7 from Nacogdoches, TX and woke up in the hospital. It appears I (we) got broadsided by a 6 point with his head down. Yes, he hit us. Luckily he was the only fatality. My mom was riding with me and got an antler puncture in her leg. Another puncture went through the battery. The seat under my junk punctured too but missed me. I had a concussion, head fracture and had to have most of my scalp sewed back on. At least the head trauma gives me an excuse for being the way I am.

That explains alot, STRIPES. And here, all this time I thought it was just cuz' you're from Tejas!!!;)

I got busted up pretty good from my run in with Bambi (a 150 pounder, which, I'm pleased to report, I cut evenly in two!) Glad that you and your mom lived to tell the tale!

Done

Daryl,

I have to agree with you on this one. Although I may be haunted by the ghosts of many Bambi's from my prior hunting days there will be no more. Many years ago I was sitting on the side of a mountain in Highland County Virginia when it started to spit an early November snow. Sitting there I wondered if the old International Scout I was driving at the time when get my ass out of the valley we had accessed via an old logging road. There was no feeling in my hands or feet and the temp was study dropping. I ran through my head the costs of the shotgun, shells, hunting permit, clothes, and assorted other goodies needed to murder God's creatures. Then I recalled a ad in the newspaper the night before had ground round on special for a $1.19 per pound at Safeway. I packed my gear, went home and haven't hunted since. I have nothing against you folks who still enjoy the sport. The herds are getting larger and their food supply is less thanks to over development. Please also remember to be careful out there. Thanks to novice or intoxicated hunters farmers in the area we hunted generally lost at least one cow per season.

BTW,

Stripes, glad your Mom and you made it. They can come at you quick and from nowhere.....

No offense intended, OE-Guy, but do we really have to post such things?

RIP fallen rider...

No doubt, RIP fallen rider

but all of us who ride need to remember to expect that ANYTHING can happen at ANYTIME. Ride Safe!

Agreed - that was kinda' the point of this entire thread.

Having nearly been killed by a deer, it's just rough to read about those who weren't as lucky as I was!
