Welcome Chriss, from Maine, I'm using the Motul 300v 15-50. Not the cheapest stuff. You get what you pay for and oil is no different.

Mully the Rocket Engine/Trans likes 50W oil not the 40W. Try some 10W50 or 15W50. I bet it likes it even better than the 10W40 you are using now.

I'm little hesitant to try it because oil for these bikes isn't cheap

Guess I'll try it on the next oil change. The expected temperature range in my area stays between 14ºF and 95º. I've gave up on riding in temps over 85º if I can help it. Screw that!

Service manual states every 10K on oil changes but have never made it that far. I've always change it somewhere before 10K. Didn't feel too confident in going that far.

I have run Mobil 10-40 since day one. (Oct 2015) Now at 34,000 miles have not had any problems with the bike at all. I do change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles. May not be necessary to change the oil so often but I do. Last two bikes Harley Fatboy 89,000 miles (2010-2017) and a Truimph America over 100,000 miles (2005-2010) The Harley was sold for $12,000 dollars and runs like a top. The Truimph America was used as a trade in for the Harley and bought by one of the mechanics that worked there. All ran on Mobil oil. Proper maintenance and good oil equals some pretty impressive mileage.

Lots of good oil products out there, I'd stick with the 15-50 tho,,,but that's just my opinion.
