Where's a good spot to relocate the air temp sensor?

So. since I've gotten the Bear Claw cut, and the K&N's installed with the OEM bottle relocated, I now am scratching my head and wondering where the best spot would be for the air temp sensor (that was previously installed in the OEM air duct work).

I've already cut the wires and am preparing to extend the lead for it, so I can move it away from the valve cover area. It get's hot under that fuel tank and I want the best sampling of the ambient air temperature, and plus protection for it.

Already installed the littlel K&N filter on it, to protect the sensor head.

I was thinking about making the electrical lead long enough to place the sensor behind the left side cover on the bike. Good protection for it, and I'm hoping that it doesn't get too hot under there.

I notice some people mounted it very near the K&N's, and someone even mounted it INSIDE one of the K&N's.

Maybe I can make a clip off some sorts for it, and clip it on underneath the center tab of the Bear Claw mounting bracket.

Any other ideas on the best and easiest place to relocate it?

Will - the key point is really to get the sensor as near as possible to the air that will be sucked into the engine. In the OEM site it was receiving Fresh air as the engine turned over. Hide it under a panel and it will get stale (still) air that may be hotter or colder than the engine gets.

Hmmm.... well, ambient air temp is the same if it's stale... or moving....? When you say stale, you mean "not moving", right?

There's an area under the front of the BearClaw; just forward of the first K&N, where I "could" mount the sensor (there's sort of a >- area of the top portion of the frame where if I faced it forward, it would seem to be in ambient airflow; though I wonder about heat coming up from the fan behind the radiator when the bike is stationary....

...or maybe I can extend the leads to the sensor, and then have the sensor mounted inside of the BearClaw (attached to the center mounting bracket of the claw) and position the sensor downward so that it barely appears from beneath the lower center edge of the BearClaw (on the inside).

This is hard. I need to drink another beer, and ponder this. :-?

Zip it to the back of the front filter... as close as you'll get to Intake Air Temp....and if you're concerned about any possible heat from radiator, it's protected a bit by the front filter....and anyway, the Intake will be such heated air ( if there is any) .. the sensor needs Intake Air Temp, not ambient.

If that's too obvious visually, tie it to the top of the filter (first or second).....or wedge it under one of those nice red pre-filter covers maybe???

Ok. I thank you all for your insight and advice. Just got in from positioning it. Went ahead and located it on the outer top frame, behind the first K&N. Here's a couple of pic's:

Now all I need is......

P.R.E.D.A.T.O.R.S .....and a tune for them with the K&N's
