  1. When your starter just goes "CLICK" heres how to fix it...

A few weeks ago I posted my findings on the starter problem many were experiencing when it just goes click. Especially when hot. I related that it was do to a drop in voltage at the starter relay.
The reason I hadnt posted since is I wanted to have time to research and test the fix for it before posting. The problem with the voltage drop seems to originate with the ignition switch. That said the first response would be just replace the ignition switch. That will indeed fix the problem but not for good. The switch seems to be overloaded from many angles. Thus the need for the headlight relays to take the load off the ignition switch.Eventually the switch will fail again and the problem will return. With the switches being around $200.00 it gets expensive. So I have come up with a simple fix that takes the load off the switch and provides extremly crisp engagment of the starter even under hot conditions. The solution is to install a second relay that feeds the starter relay by bypassing the ignition switch. You can use the same type of relay that is used for the headlight relays. I have included a drawing of how to wire it. Its is very easy to do.Do not clip any of the existing Triumph wires only tie into them. You will be amazed at the difference it makes in crisp starter engagment. I hope you will find this information benificial. The numbers on the drawing coincide with the numbers that exist on most relays. The chart gets cut off a bit on the right side just to clarify #85 goes to ground.

Finally got around to doing this mod after having starting problems off and on for a couple of years now. It worked great, bike starts right up now without the click and delay. Thanks Honker!

Here is a you tube vid on doing the mod that helped a lot.
