What gear to have everyday and on long trips.

I know it's "just do it" -- layers is all well and good. It's what to do with the layers removed that is the problem. Forces one to "under pack" and it just feels wrong some how.

Plenty of GREAT ideas. I carry most of what was mentioned to include a compact med kit from minor cuts to a tourniquet and a needle-D (this was my last deployment kit). One thing to add is a a small jar of pickles... something that would give you a personal boost if you were out in the middle of nowhwhere hot a feeling low on stamina and energy.

I carry a TourMaster XL Coaster bag. The top roll bag always stays empty. Allows us to peel clothing during the day and is a great storage area for the liquor we always find along the way.

Between the saddlebags and the main Coaster bag we have plenty of room.

Yes, it's actually the juice that's most beneficial. Of course I carry some form of protein/power bar as well but the pickle juice is what will help if you are dehydrated.

I take a lot of the things mentioned in my saddle bags all the time. The most important necessity for me to take along on all my rides is Jesus. Be sure to bring Him along every time you go out.
