What do these Gipro units do?

It gives you back full power in first, second and third that Triumph takes away through timing retardation. It also acts as a gear indicator.

Does it trick the bike into thinking it's in fourth gear all the time thus elimination the power restriction or just tell you what gear your in?

Basically, yes.

I believe it can be configured to use 4th, 5th (or 6th on bikes that have a 6th) mappings.

It's a pretty easy thing to setup that targets an audience of enthusiasts that want more power but don't want to or don't understand how to modify the actual mappings in the ECU through something like a TuneBoy.

The nice thing about the GiPro w/ATRE is that it can be turned off and on easily with little to no hand dirtying.

I have not seen any side effects whatsoever. I've had mine for about four months without a hitch. Bike runs great and I also have a PC III with it, so no worries.

Well, that's what I'm trying to figure out from HealTech and TuneBoy right now.

If you look at a stock tune in Tuneboy, ignition isn't dependent on gear position, only secondary opening is. Timing is dependent on throttle position and engine speed and trimmed based on load.

So, if there is retarded timing, why isn't it in the TuneBoy options?

If there isn't retarded timing and all the GiPro is doing is fooling for secondary opening, then they shouldn't be marketing it as ATRE.

'specially when you've probably already got a screw driver and can remove them for free.

By just removing secondaries?

Nah, you're ECU will adapt as you use it.

It's my understanding that the GiPro does what I said it did in my post. Triumph retards the timing in first through third gears and the GiPro is supposed to give that back with the ATRE.

I understand that, but what I'm saying, if you look at a bone stock tune, there's nothing to indicate that timing is dependent on gear position anywhere.

I'm waiting on replies from Wayne (TB) and Norbert (HealTech).

There is either something missing from TuneBoy or all the GiPro does is open up secondaries. Or, I'm wrong on both counts.

But the ATRE and the gear position indicator are really two different things. Maybe I'm not understanding totally what you are saying. The gear indicator and the ATRE function separately and wire up separately.
