Was going to buy Roadster

Just buy a used one 2007 & up you will never have a problem I got mine 2007 Classic with toons of added accesesories for 8900 usd and never had a problem they only problem is that I can t slow down my speed
It s true Black ones are faster but Black and White Classics are the hell

I appreciate all the input. I probably go with the used bike. My wife wants a Can Am Spyder. With the money I save I can put towards a bike (of sorts) for her. I assume the engine hasn't changed much between the different years of the Rockets?
My main concern of reliability is with the engine and transmission. The other issues I will address myself, wether they are electrical or whatever.

The issues that some of these Rockets have had, would they be considered Lemons? If it were a design flaw it would affect all bikes like the ignition switch issue, am I correct in this line of thinking?
Running full load of the lights through the ignition seems like it was designed to fail, what were they thinking?

I would say buy the used one and ride it.. IF any of the problems crop up that people talk about, resolve it then. Chances are they won't. I know of only a handful, even on this forum that have had ignition switch issues. The same with transmission issues on early models, I actually know more who have had transmission issues over the years. These are problems to be aware of but the majority are cruising right a long with neither of these issues. My biggest problem has been the Primary Throttle Position Sensor. I am on my 3rd one. Triumph made a change in the TPS at some point, and this last one I have is one of these so I'm hoping I'm on my last one!..

Another problem with my Rocket, or any Triumph is waiting on parts when I need them and my local service department is not mechanically inclined, so I have to go a little farther for good service when I need it. Mechanically and electronically, my bike has been ultra reliable. I have tentative plans to ride it to Sturgis again this year and would have no problem jumping on it right now and heading that direction. Buy the used one.. ride it, make the wife happy with the Spyder! You will have to wait up for her on occaision though.

Mine is a 2004 with 74K miles on it. I know I seem to post this a lot, but I just want people to know that the Rocket can be relied on to go a lot of miles.

I would not be concerned about buying a Triumph. I have owned 7 of them so far 96 Trophy, 99 T-Bird, 02 Bonnie-America, 04 T-Bird Sport, 07 Tiger 1050, 10 T-Bird, and now 11 R3T.

I have never had any major mechanical issues with any of them.
I have also own bikes from Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha and have found all brands have their quirks.

Triumph is a small company so having a good dealer close by tends to be an issue.
If you have a good reputable Triumph Dealer nearby talk to them about the issues the 06 model had and continue researching about the bike.

Can't seem to make myself buy a HD keep going back to the Brits, must be the American Rebel in me Go Your Own Way

As far as 'year models' goes i can be a little confusing .. my Rocket is plated 2007 that i purchased new in January 2009. So it's technically a 2007 model.

I have a 05 and 06 the 05 has not missed a beat the 06 well thats a different story but them I beat the holy living snot out of it so if things break it is usually my fault. 60,000+ miles and I finally have the ignition switch issue it still starts but once I go above 5 psi on the blower the lights flicker on and off. again my fault ,most likely.

Well now, TC, you were indeed fortunate to find and purchase a new 07 in 09.
Sorry Mate, but your moniker should reflect 07 - not 09 IMHO.
